What we do

Nurturing the Future works home by home, street by street to reconnect and build a community where children are at the core. We do this by creating a community where members are offered education, awhi, therapeutic support, advocacy and intervention.

Community Hub

We are herd dwellers. We were never meant to live in isolation. We have a strong Nurturing the Future community on the West Coast who need a place to gather and share stories. We want to feed, educate, awhi, model and motivate and inspire the caregivers in our community.

Workshops

Nurturing the Future workshops have been offered for the past two years.

Parents are offered Nurturing the Future workshops in three stages. Stage one is a range of core workshops, ongoing work is available in stage two, and we are now beginning to develop stage three groups which have a therapeutic base.

More than 35% of our participants are male and over 30% are Maori.

We do not judge in our workshops; parents come along safe in the knowledge that no one is going to tell them they are doing a bad job. We know that all parents are doing the best they can, and we haven't met a parent yet who is not doing something well.

There are only two things in our workshops which are non-negotiable. First, we do not condone child abuse, in any form. Second, we will not work with couples together. If you wish for both you and your partner/co-parent to take part in our workshops then there are plenty of different sessions available so that you can both attend - just not at the same time.

If you are a parent on the West Coast and would like to enquire about the availability of our workshops, please click here to contact us.

There is no financial cost involved in attending any of our workshops. In other words, you commit to turning up, and we commit to helping you. For free.

Presentations

Teen Brain

Trish Hunt has developed a "Teen Brain" workshop designed for parents and their teenagers. Topics covered during the Teen Brain workshop include the developing brain of an adolescent according to neuroscience; parenting tips for living with teens; voices of the experts and an "expert" panel to answer your questions.

0-3 years

The first three years are the most important of your child's life. Trish's first three years workshop will show you why it is so important and will also show how it is never too late to change the life of a child.

These workshops are available through our Nurturing the Future workshops and on request. Please contact us for more information.

Other parenting workshops are available depending on your need.

Lifting the focus of parent education in your community.

Do you want to inspire your community to provide, and take part in, great parenting education?

While the Nurturing the Future programme is specific to the needs of the community on the West Coast, we have assisted many other communities to write and develop their own brand of parent education.

Please contact us for more information.
